SMAW (stick) in 3G position.  6010 root (1 pass). 7018 3/32 fill (3 passes) and 1 cap.  Fill and cap are a weave pattern.  First picture is the root, 2nd in the fill and cap.  The root is a bitch!!  Ill try and take some pictures of the track torches, cutting torches, grinders, etc.

Phase IV Week I

So, its been a loooong time since Ive updated.  I got sick after phase 3 and ended up having to repeat phase 4 twice.  Being sick, not understanding/being taught right, and getting hung up on a root pass has held me back.  But Im happy to say Im on track to moving in to phase 5, finally.  But heres what Ive been up to:

SMAW (stick) in the 2G position.  6010 root (1 pass) 7018 3/32 fill and cap (4 passes for the cap, I forget how many fill passes I did).  First the picture of the root (which I know I messed up on), then the fill and cap.

Phase III. Week III.

FCAW (Flux Core) weld in the 3G position, Groove weave weld.  1 root, 2 passes, 1 cap.  Flux core burns much hotter and leaves slag over the weld, much like stick welding and completely different than MIG.  I was a little rushed to finish this project because it was the last day of the phase, but I really liked doing the flux core, not quite as meticulous and fine as MIG.  I’ve also included a picture of an average booth at TWS.  This is the booth students doing stick and MIG/Flux use.  Students doing TIG use the same type of booth, but with a TIG machine obviously.  On to Phase IV now, and Ill post pictures next week of our welders, grinding room and the track torches we use, and of course projects.

First Entry

I will start uploading the blog with pictures and an overview on the first two phases tomorrow (7/14).  For now here is the second project of the third phase.  This is a GMAW (MIG) weld in the 3F position, Fillet weave weld.  1 root 2 passes.  I need to work on the width.
